Statement

My inspiration comes from the natural world, poetry, Buddhist philosophy, the cyclical nature of existence - our human journey and the inner life.

Printmaking provided me with a vehicle for layered imagery which lent itself to these themes. Since 2012 I have moved on to mixed media work using paint, collage and photographic images. Three years of clay sculpture and recently portrait painting have given me a greater understanding of the figure which is feeding back into my more imaginative work.

Biography

I was born in Cuffley, Hertfordshire in 1950 and attended St. Dominic's Priory Convent and Ware Grammar School, followed by a year at Turnford College of Further Education. In 1970 I spent a year living and working in Canada and the USA.

I have mainly worked in the care sector in hospitals, residential homes and daycare.  The last 20 years of my working life were spent in a specialist centre for elderly people with Alzheimers Disease where part of my job was to run art sessions and other therapeutic activities. Since retirement, I now do this on a voluntary basis for my local Alzheimers Society day centre.

Whilst working full time, I have always continued to draw and paint and in 2002, thanks to flexible working hours,I  completed a BTEC in Professional Development, Fine Art, specialising in printmaking at Kensington and Chelsea College.

For the past 37 years I have been based in West London where I brought up my daughter.  I have exhibited prints and paintings in many group shows, had a few solo exhibitions and taken part in open studio events.
